This book was so well executed. All of the characters in this book feel so fully realized, and many of the themes really spoke to me. Particularly, the feelings a loss surrounding the end of an era

(ie: Gus and Call no longer being famous/well respected, the loss of buffalo and starvation of the Indians, and ideas of “civilization” coming to a land)

and the waiting for the beginning of a new era in which you may no longer belong was so well done. I wasn’t sure I’d love this book when I started it, but sitting with the characters, and themes and prose made me realize this book deserves all the love it gets.
