I feel bad. I liked the original tale. BIG CATS. I just wasn't interested enough in how the story evolved to enjoy eight other versions of the story.

Technically listened to the audiobook mostly, but the illustrations are gorgeous in the physical book. And loved the narration in the audiobook.
This is a good read for diehard Tolkien fans who feel the need to read every little note which Tolkien has written, even if it hasn't been published. I was expecting a full story, but instead, it was a couple long stories, along with other notes by his son on the background of stories, poems, and shorts. I skipped a few chapters if I was losing interest or felt it was way too similar to another which was already written. I don't think casual Tolkien fans would be too interested.

Expected so much more from this book. As many reviewers have pointed out before me, Christopher Tolkien's comments were quite disturbing and therefore the flow of the story was lost. Expected something completely different and was, alas, disappointed.
