“Meadows, baby. Our last name is Meadows.”

This book was amazing and that's something I did not expect to say when the topic involves this book but it is and I can't even deny it. I started reading it hesitantly because I knew that the first part is Addie's story after she was kidnapped. When the author's note mentioned that this book is darker than the first one, I thought, okay, I can handle it. I was so wrong. This book is dark DARK dark. I need to have the best stomach going in this book because I needed it. So many wrong shits has been happening. Adeline's POV showed us the perspective of people who were being trafficked into sex slavery. That first scene where she was taken against her will, I was just cringing and praying it will never happen to me. I don't think I'd live after what she's gone through. Then there's Zade's POV where you see him struggle with losing his mouse. He was willing to do everything just to get her back. He knew what was currently happening to her and he can't do anything. It took half the book just for them to get back together but damn, that first half of the book is pretty traumatizing. I can't believe such people exist. I'm in a very comfortable bubble that do not know what's happening on the other side of the world.

Thank you, H.D. Carlton, for showing us a preview of it. I'm sure a lot worse is happening somewhere.

This story is most definitely not for everyone. Oddly enough, I liked this one better than the first in the series. The content was graphic, dark (like really dark), and absolutely captivating. I understand what that saying means about watching a train wreck, it was so so tragic and I couldn’t stop. The story picks up and doesn’t stop. There were some scenes I could do without. READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!!! I am a total fan of Z. I didn’t particularly get him or care for him in the first book, but I get it now. I get it soooo good.

read trigger warnings at the start of this book !!

the author was not lying when she said this book is significantly darker than the first. honestly, i had to skip chapters 10-22 (hence my rating of the book) because of that fact. i also had to save myself and look up spoilers for my own sanity. my personal opinion, it gets so much better after chapter 23.

This book is horrific, I had actual nightmares about it. The main character has been human trafficked as a sex slave and it is painful to read.

I listened to this as an audiobook and Teddy Hamilton’s voice as Zade is absolutely unmatched. Dark, sexy and sinister. This book is very dark, but also emotionally captivating. You want to like the morally grey characters, and even end up rooting for them. But it makes you reflect on the topics at hand. That being said, some scenes were hard to wrap my head around, but the spice was spicy!!
