There's nothing quite like watching a bunch of influencers slowly lose their minds on an abandoned island. If you are like me and a fan of influencer and celebrity drama, I highly recommend checking this one out. There were moments I genuinely laughed out loud and I enjoyed the slightly horrific turns it took without being too dark.
As an avid “Lord of the Flies” fan, I feel like I got what the book was going for. Similarly named characters and a similar plot, “Lord of the Fly Fest” falls short mainly because I just didn’t care. I enjoyed the satire at first but it got pretty old quickly and I longed for more plot and character development. If this book was longer with more developed plot points and character relationships, I probably would have enjoyed it much more. Again, I LOVE satire and I LOVE “Lord of the Flies” but this just didn’t live up to what I wanted from it.

I really didn't enjoy this book. I know it was supposed to be a modern retelling of Lord of the Flies, but something just didn't gel. Perhaps the influencers? They all started off as extremely unlikeable.
You know when A book is rated SUPER LOW on Goodreads, but it has a cool cover and idea, so you are like, "I'm going in objectively." Look. Sometimes this is just wrong. Sometimes all of the reviews are correct.
Lord of the Fly Fest is a retelling of Lord of the Flies mashed with the events of the Fye Festival and is meant to be a comedy-horror parody of influencer and Gen Z culture. A generational parody can be fantastic if well done but can go absolutely off the wall. In a year when Bodies Bodies Bodies showed how intelligently you can parody modern youth culture, Lord of the Fly Fest comes off as out of touch and mean-spirited. The characters are all flat and overly stereotypical. They are not likable, not interesting.
I am giving this book 2 stars (1.5 in reality) because the audiobook narrator slayed and kept me engaged for about 40% of the book. She does a great job with the voices and narration style.

This was a solidly okay YA read. If the Fyre Festival was written as a book, had teen social media influencers attend it, and had a few murder accusations and Lord of the Flies references thrown around then that would be this book. It was short and had an overall interesting premise, but I’ll have a hard time remembering this one in a day.

This is the second book I've read from the author and although not as good as The Mary Shelley Club, I still enjoyed this quite a bit. Loved the Fyre Fest inspo, the modern take on Lord of the Flies (which I haven't read but I know I should), and the commentary of social media/influencers/celebrity.
Not the best book out there, but entertaining enough for me.

Picked this up immediately after verging myself in Lord of the Flies, after having it out for a few weeks on my audio library app.
I wasn't a fan. It just lacked any substance for me and I didn't care about anything that I was reading about, unfortunately.
