I was so excited for this after The Mary Shelley Club being one of my all time favourite YA thrillers but this one kind of missed the mark for me as it's hyper-current satire, mostly a commentary on Fyre Fest. It's not that bad once you realise it's a piss take but the logic wasn't all there (why is Rafi virtually the only non-celeb?) and it wasn't thrilling in the slightest.

This was pretty cute— The Lord of the Flies references were pretty funny and the commentary on true crime podcasts was well done, but there were a few moments that didn’t land for me, including the use of the word ‘savages’ which was Not Good.
That said, I would say this might be a funny book for students to read after Lord of the Flies, but I feel like without that context, the jokes/references are either going to go over kids’ heads, or that they’re a little mean spirited in a way that idk if I love?
Overall, this had some missteps that took away from my enjoyment, but it did have funny moments (the ‘kill the pig, slit its throat’ thing did make me laugh) so I don’t regret reading it either

A mix of the mess that was Fyre Fest and the classic Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Lord of the Fly Fest is a satirical comedy-horror. Rafi spends her life savings to go to a big music festival in hopes of getting an interview with the famous River Stone for her podcast. She has some theories about him that she’s hoping to prove true. However, upon arriving to the tropical island where the festival was to take place Rafi discovers she and everyone else had been lied to. There is no Festival, they’d been scammed. From there, all hell breaks loose. This book knows exactly what it is, it’s a jab at the influencer and social media culture that has taken Gen-Z by the… well, you get what I’m saying. I was fully prepared not to like this book. At times it was a bit out there, some say it didn’t really ‘go anywhere’ but I feel like maybe the point was missed. The whole book felt as thought it was meant to shine light on how absurd the influencer culture can be at times.

Overall this book was enjoyable and a good read, It was like a modern version of Lord of the Flies and it kept me on the edge of my seat also the cover of book was stunning.

Both the pace of the plot and the atmosphere was fine also the ending was okay. I liked the characters but I didn't love and i would have like them to be bit flash out more.
