I’m trying to branch into mysteries, but this book wasn’t it. This was one of those YAs that felt very much for that demographic, which is fine. It just wasn’t for me.

- I didn’t care for Stevie. She felt like she was better than everyone else and was weirdly judgmental about things that otherwise felt arbitrary.

- There were way too many characters. And it would’ve been fine if they served a purpose, but none of them were developed enough to warrant being present. It was just like adding more clutter to a plot that already had enough moving parts.

- the concept of the school just didn’t make sense to be to begin with. A school for? Mystery solvers? Idk like the entire premise of the story was weird to me and I was never able to find the meaning in. I know that I don’t have to, but it hindered my enjoyment.

Maybe this would’ve been better if I was familiar w the tropes of the genre? Idk. My eyes were partially glazed over for most of this, and I’ve since removed it from my memory. It’s def me and not the book

For a YA mystery book, this was exceptional. The main character is likeable and clever, and the cliffhanger is great but it doesn’t make me want to pull out my hair, which is a great quality.

This book really drew me in, finished it in about a day. The cliff hanger has caused me to buy the second book, I have to know the mystery of Truly Devious, the same way Stevie is trying to figure it out.

If you want true mystery thrill in a YA book. This is the book you want to pick.
I liked the book. It was super slow in the beginning, with too many descriptions and I was confused about what was actually the mystery. But slowly the story unfolds. And oh boy! The mystery itself is a work of art. The story jumps from past to present and tells an age-old tale that is still relevant in the present time.

Super slow and kind of uneventful. I had to make myself push through this story and the ending wasn’t even worth it because it leaves off on a huge cliff hanger. I will not be reading the rest of the books in this series.
