Meacham always reminds us that we all are human, with strengths, weaknesses, tragedies, and magnificent accomplishments. He treats Lincoln no differently. His descriptions of Lincoln's failings (military force rather than justice alone to end slavery among others) are offered with detailed reports of the contexts in which they occurred, and with humanity and reason.

I listened to most of the book. Meacham is an outstanding reader. Highly recommend.

This is a very engaging, thoroughly researched biography of Lincoln that focused mainly on his moral development leading up to emancipation. There were many parallels of how the country was polarized then to how it is today and it is a shame that racism continues.
I've always been fascinated with Lincoln and have read many books about him, this is one of the best.
