Mare and Denna are back, traveling to another kingdom for both political and personal reasons. Mare is hoping to make an alliance to save her kingdom from hostile attacks; Denna is hoping to find someone to help her get her magic under control. Though there's a lot of complications, including unique modes of travel and battles with both swords and spells, the pacing still somehow feels sloooow. I'm still happy to have the pair out there in literature, but the books still need a little more polish.

I absolutely loved the first book so I had high hopes for this one and it
didn't disappoint!!

The world building was much stronger in this sequel, and the characters a tad more interesting; I loved Denna's development in particular. I thought Denna and Mare's relationship was relatable and I really enjoyed seeing them apart in this book.

A lot of people don't like how basic this series is but sometimes you need a comfortable read xd

I didnt enjoy the first one until the end, and because of the ending I thought I'd try the 2nd one. Nearly 100 pages in and bored as hell and I just don't care about the characters. I've also heard the main characters are separated for most of the book I read this for the sapphic romance so nah not for me
