Wow this was a steamy mystery, and I read this book in one sitting.
Kelly is thirty five and she’s having some recent relationship problems with her long term boyfriend Mike. The pandemic has been hard , heartbroken they decide some time apart may help. Kelly had recently reconnected with Sabrina from high school, Kelly is an author of romance erotica books and she is married to a high-powered man named Nathan who works for the government.
Sabrina invites Kelly to stay in the spare room of their Virginia mansion, thinking this may help with her relationship Kelly agrees.
She packs a few bags including her cat Virgo and heads to Sabrina’s.
Nathan and Sabrina are amazing hosts, who seem truly happy that she is there and tell her to make herself at home. One night after bonding over a great meal, drinks and some time by the pool, they find themselves opening up their relationship to her and a steamy threesome happens.
Kelly has has never felt this way and she finds this is exactly what she needed , she falls hard for the both of them. Until she uncovers that couple's previous partner disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Soon tension builds and Kelly starts to wondering that she may be in over her head and wonders will she be the next to disappear? This book was a wild ride, I loved the tension and it definitely had me guessing.

Wellllll this book was kind of all over the place! It started a little slow and sad. It started to pick up toward the middle. Everything I thought was going on was wrong! I don’t think I’ve ever had so many wrong theories! There was plenty of mystery and revelations to keep the story going at a decent pace toward the end of the book. This book is definitely one of the strangest books I’ve read. I really enjoyed it and the messages it conveyed. I would recommend giving it a try though, it was definitely a maze of a story!

Wild twists and turns, unpredictable, steamy scenes, and also a little…cringey? I think the main character’s obsessive, anxious personality is slightly relatable but almost overwhelming to a fault. Overall, the plot and suspenseful elements are great. A pandemic-based thriller offers a way to connect with the storyline. But there were times I wondered whether to continue reading.

Sadly, this was a no for me. It had such great plot potential but it didn’t turn around so it was a miss for me.

I expected a thriller/mystery, but it was more of just a psychological domestic drama, talking about break-ups and living in a threesome..
I will admit vs not DNF i skimmed through many parts that lost my interest.
It just didn’t seem realistic and I continued on hoping for a good ending.

Thank you to NetGalley for an arc of Spare Room in exchange for an honest review.

I HATE giving bad reviews – it just makes me feel so bad, because so much of a review is based on personal opinion.

I was very excited to get an egalley of this book, but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me.

I normally love thrillers! I had heard this one was a bit spicy, so obviously I thought it was a recipe for success! I even heard a lot of gossip about “THAT” scene. I think it occurs in the first half of the book, but…let’s just say that since I can’t even tell you when THAT scene happens, it definitely didn’t even register on my spice radar.

On top of it, the main character, Kelly, was over the top whiny and trusting. She gave Sabrina and Nathan so many chances. They put up with so much snooping and nosiness for Kelly. It was irritating rather than endearing - and I was rooting for their relationship!!! But with every misstep I began to like every character less and less. I think the true fault of this book was that the only likeable character was Virgo, the cat.

I was really excited for a sexy summer thriller, but this fell flat. 2.5 stars rounded up.

Reading about a Throuple is not my idea of a good book….. but I was interested the whole time. Some parts definitely didn’t seem plausible and at times the main character was an idiot, but I actually really like the book.

A few months into the pandemic, Kelly has found herself jobless in Philadelphia and has just been told that her fiancé doesn’t want to reschedule their wedding. Needing a break, she goes to Virginia to visit Sabrina, a high school friend, and her husband Nathan. Behind the gates of their mansion, the three enter a polyamorous relationship, and then Kelly finds evidence of their last partner….who is currently missing.
