Loved the entire trilogy and can't wait to read more by Jemisin.
This is what exactly what good fantasy/Sci-Fi is for me: it's another world, there's magic and strange beings, but the themes are universal and very much familiar. In this trilogy, we have racism and structural oppression of minorities, ranging from prejudice to lynchmobs to outright genocide; we have the greedy, hungry exploitation of the Earth by humans; we have motherhood and the pains of thinking you failed your children; we have friendships that grow slowly, even grudgingly, out of mutual respect, and we have love that comes in strange, unexpected ways.
Everyone who loves fantasy – and who will be happy to read something that is, in many ways, the exact opposite of another straightwhitemale medieval Anglo-Saxon fantasy – should definitely give this a go.
