Solid, easy read. Trigger warning for CNC - something I steadily stay away from but surprisingly wasn’t bothered by in this book. It was done right.

I was hoping for more connection to the rest of the series, though.

To much smut and too little plot. The world is interesting just like the first book but i feel the stakes where super low in this one. All conflicts and troubles are solved before they even become a problem.

After reading the Cold Hearted, I was assuming I'd get much of the same with an MMC that takes so long to admit his feelings. But Amos was such a breath of fresh air.

Although this has less plot and more romance than the first book, I was not at all disappointed. I loved the open and honest communication style; it was almost thrilling just to have an MMC who hid nothing from his love interest.

The dual-POV worked really well for showing how each of them were caring and considerate of the other, and I was swooning over how sweet, considerate, and unashamedly devoted Amos was, and how Tessa pushed him in just the right ways to allow him to feel more comfortable being himself.

And, let's not overlook the streamy portrayal of CNC and primal play. I don't think I've ever seen it done this well.

Although I was fine with less plot in this, as Amos is through-and-through a homebody who just wants a quiet life, I was actually a little annoyed when the plot did come into play. Suddenly, our shy, sweet, considerate MMC is a terrifying entity in the vampire community? It was just a little unnecessary.

One of my favorite MMCs of all time, and for once an FMC that's not a tiny wittle blonde. Also really opened my mind to CNC which I didn't think was possible

Wasn’t my absolute favorite thing the way the first one in the series was despite being way smuttier but still really enjoyed it and liked the main couple together

It was almost a bit eerie reading this book, because it felt as if Heather Guerre had a direct look into my brain for all of the things I'd love to see in a romance and put them into Hot Blooded.

Tessa is a really resilient heroine. She's dealing with the grief of losing her father, medical debt, a demanding job, and a family that's emotionally manipulative. You see her struggling with the latter throughout the book but as the story starts she's found a way to deal with the debt: signing up to become a blood donor to a vampire. That's how she meets our hero, Amos.

Amos is such a rarity in romance. He's such a sweet, introverted cinnamon roll. But he's also described as looking incredibly average. Tessa is almost as tall as he is. I am so TIRED of these gorgeous heroes with eight pack abs looming over the heroines, so that was really refreshing to read. Anyway, despite being a vampire with predatory urges, Amos is really respectful of Tessa. He's possessive and protective, but it never crosses the line into controlling behaviour. He actually discusses things with her and they communicate properly.

As for those predatory urges, it turns out Tessa actually likes being the focus of them because she's so tired of being in control of everything in her life. So this book does have some primal play and CNC scenes (seriously the best CNC scenes I've ever read!). It was so nice to see consent properly handled with safe words. I also loved that Tessa was curvy and still really confident in her body. The romance itself is sweet and low on conflict: every time you think there's going to be a big drama scene, the main characters just talk it through and use the power of good communication. I love it.

By the end of the book, there are some lovely cosy found family vibes that felt like a warm hug. Oh, and I really enjoyed the casual bisexual representation in this. The way Amos worried that Tessa would be disgusted at him having male lover in the past, the way that Tessa is still portrayed as bi despite only having had crushes on women before and not needing to explore it further. It felt so true to the real life bisexual experience.

This is seriously one of my top reads of 2022 and I think will quickly slide into my all-time favourites. If you're also tired of the same-old alpha heroes and big misunderstanding conflict scenes like I am, I think you'll like this.
