Honestly my biggest takeaway from this book was that grandparents are precious and I miss mine all the time.

Another great novel by TJR. The complex and flawed characters were so relatable and the story was fresh and lively. Great spin on what can happen when we give up and when we try. Julia Whelan is, of course, a superb narrator.

"Ryan and I are two people who used to be in love. What a beautiful thing to have been. What a sad thing to be."

A bit saccharine in places, and admittedly disappointing after reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but not without its good passages. Lauren and Ryan's marriage growing stale and them "falling out of love" with each other was largely believable, and
Spoilertheir reconciliation
did feel natural and well-timed. The prose was a bit plain in places, and some of the dialogue a little contrived, but it was certainly a heartwarming read. 2.8 stars, rounded up. ✰✰✰

Taylor Jenkins Reid books will never disappoint me. I think she could publish her shopping list and I would still buy it and binge read it in one sitting.

But I have to say that this felt like the weakest one of hers that I have read so far.

I felt the pain of Lauren and Ryan in the beginning as they begin their year long separation and navigating and semi-single life without each other in it. I rooted for them as they started forging their own paths and meeting new people and discovering who they are outside of their marriage.

I wouldn’t say that I’m disappointed in them reuniting at the end, but it all felt a little rushed. I felt like the author creates a chaotic situation where too much was happening too soon for any of the characters to think so everything was decided on a snap decision.

Although there was a period for when the dust settles and they do have time to think and talk about what happened, they’re already back in the “re-honeymoon” phase of things?

If you are a fan of Taylor Jenkins Reid then I will never say to avoid her work, but maybe don’t go running towards this one just yet.

Love this book. Love it. I'm buying my own copy to keep on hand. It was just so GOOD. And real! I thought I might feel terrible after reading it, based on the premise, but it was just so lovely! Can't wait to read everything else in this author's arsenal.
