honestly, im obsessed w this. i love it. as someone who absolutely adores art museums and art history, this was an incredible read. i literally wrote down quotes from him just to have. he truly depicts his journey through intense grief so fully. the way he talks about the importance and meaning of art, humanity, life, and growing is sensational. anyway. would recommend

An interesting read and a very different take on art and art history. Loved the perspective and the stories.

So beautifully written! He brings such insight to the numerous pieces of art at the Met. He ties together seemingly disparate object and time periods so that one really sees the simple humanity behind them. And he spoke so wonderfully about the Gees Bend quilts!

This was a very well done memoir of the author's experience working as a guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. I really enjoyed his reflections on the pieces of art he got to hang around for ten years and how they connected with his life's experiences and still connect the past when they were created with the present world.

This is a beautiful and reflective memoir about the author’s experiences as a museum guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art following the death of his older brother. It was much more about the art itself than I was expecting, but it made me nostalgic for my own visits to the Met. Sometimes he would be describing a piece and I’d realize that I had a photo of it on my phone. For anyone who loves art museums and the impact of art in our lives.
