This could be a good resource for folks working in a sexist work environment. It will name specific problematic behaviors and help create strategies to deal with them.

I will say that this is heavy with white woman feminist and the idea of a woman being defined by having a vagina. I have heard the paperback does have some edits to be more inclusive, so hopefully, there was some improvement.

Very insightful book on fighting sexism. The author focuses on different types and how to shut people down. I was a little confused on the chapter about speaking and speech patterns. The author would discuss a particular speech pattern that women have/ tend to use, explain what professionals say to change it, but then turn around and explain why it was a good thing or who cares-be yourself speak however you like. Overall, I enjoyed the book and plan to employee her tactics on people.

I enjoyed the parts of this book that had concrete tips of how to handle certain situations in the workplace and that gave facts, but on the other hand the concentration on “women have vaginas” and gender-izing the tactics was off-putting. I know the author was writing from her perspective, but I think the book could have been more inclusive of others’ experiences by using more interviews and broadening the scope to more than just women with vaginas.

I am still determining what bothered me about this book. I enjoyed much of the advice. towards the end, the book changed tones. it uses 'spirit animal' for a personality chapter which is several pages long. I also found it got more and more hetero toward the end. "lgbtq+ sisters and brothers' after a "we" statement which makes it sound as if she assumes her audience is all straight folks. maybe I didn't notice this happening until the end while it was occurring throughout - but whichever it was - it is very noticeable in the book.

Bennett presents not just problems but solutions to subtle sexism that you’ll instantly recognize. The format gets old, but it’s easily digestible.

👉The chapter F You, Pay Me should be mandatory reading for every woman everywhere.
