Interesting at the beginning, but the characters were very one-dimensional and Hongkong is not of any meaning to the story at all. I became a bit bored quite quickly. A suitable recommendation for people who like Sally Rooney's Conversations With Friends and I personally think it was better. But I had a hard time to understand Eva's behaviour and decisions and the author didn't put any effort into making her motivations plausible.

Alba Mogensen skrev i Sydsvenskan att den här boken skulle vara bättre än Sally Rooneys verk. Jävligt höga förväntningar hade man och blev besviken.

I honestly don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much if it wasn’t set in Hong Kong. It’s an earnest and accurate portrayal of the expat’s humdrum life there, and I suppose I do sympathise with Ava on a fee occasions. But contrary to the title I found little to be excited about, and the plot to go nowhere in particular.

I wonder if in the UK and its neighbors a sort of winding, not-quite a plot style of writing is simply commonplace. Sally Rooney as well as Gail Honeyman both share the quality as well, and countless other books I simply never finished because it didn't move fast enough for me. I feel bad hating on a book for being part of a style I simply don't gravitate to, so 4 stars (but really 3). (Also why are continuing dysfunctional relationships despite fully recognizing it's unhealthy also common for book themes over there I'm a little confused am I just reading weirdly similar books and drawing niche comparisons?)

Hmm…. I guess the title is perhaps ironic, I’m afraid I didn’t find much exciting about this one. I found the whole story dull, nothing much happened, found myself skimming to get to the end. Sorry, not for me. 2.5 stars, rounded up.
