Not so sure whether i liked the book or not. The characters were insufferable at times but mostly when they reminded me of a younger version of me i have to admit. I guess it kept me entertained enough to read it to the end.

Read this after seeing it described as “emotionally stunted people having emotionally stunted sex”. Dry, sharp, and quietly devastating in the best way. Naoise Dolan really said “what if Normal People, but meaner?” Also, if you’re not following @ananascanread, you’re seriously missing out on some top-tier book recs.
set in hong kong but typical expat behaviour of not bothering to write about the local culture at all, could have been set anywhere else. the main character is so irritating i couldn’t stand it anymore and stopped reading.
Not so exciting times while reading it. The novel is vague. You do not connect with the main character. You are lost because you don’t know the reason behind her thoughts.
I also felt some places were very discriminatory. Why was there scene about the girlfriends mom being rude to helper and why did the character not put an effort and ignore it is still a mystery.

1.5 Rounded up to 2
I was SO excited for this coming off of my Conversations with Friends hype, and I have never been so let down by a book before. I can already tell this is going to put me in a slump.
This one was filled with so much pretentious pointless rambling disguised as prose that was riddled with casual racism. The setting had so much potential and Naoise Dolan not only did absolutely nothing with it but described HK in an almost offensive way. There were some really great nuggets in here that were just buried in such an uninteresting plot and the characters were so hard to care about. Skimmed most of this one.
