Every female Irish fiction writer from now until the end of time will be compared to sally rooney. In this case I do think it’s apt though.

not exciting. her life is just boring. she’s constantly searching for meaning by following other’s while maintaining a moral high ground over them. she was constantly justifying her actions by deconstructing the socio-economic factors of her decision when the reasoning was simple— she was just constantly looking for excuses and never wanted to own up to her choices.

the whole time i was reading it, i couldn’t help but feel bad for how the main character was treating edith the majority of the story. she deserves so much better. justice for edith

found in my notes app:

I don’t know why, perhaps because he was awful immediately, but I truly believed that Julian was going to be a temporary fling and that this book would contain many of those and then the chapters went on and Julian became more and more solid

like sally rooney with bigger words
*insert example*
i don’t want to say this because lord knows every bla bla bla author is going to be compared to her but like…

the romance of it is a bit lacklustre. she starts saying [SPOILER] she’s so in love with edith but i never feel that. i never see that. there’s a disconnect. i’ll take her word for it but… where?

kinda addicting

Actually fuming after finishing this book. What a complete waste of time that was, don’t bother.

Not exciting and unbearable characters 😂

I truly don't get the hype. As many people already said, the times were certainly not exciting.

The parts about Edith were much better than the parts about Julian. Several twists at the end.
