Who knew Viking romance fantasies would do it for me🤭 The world was super easy to understand, and I really like Freya (the fmc). I also liked Bjorn, but didn’t feel as connected with him as I wanted. Well paced, forced proximity, forbidden romance, good banter, lots of action. Love it.

My only faults with this book is I wish we got more from the romance (tension, yearning, emotion, etc) and there was an arc in this book when they vistied a place to honour the gods (I don’t know how else to explain it) which didn’t make sense to me and felt a bit slow at times, other than that it was a great read.

The plot twist at the end shocked me a little but was kind of predictable, still had me gaping though. Definitely going to continue this series.

The concept? Chef’s kiss. The cover design? Killed. The whiny ass childish FMC and the flat love interest? Ugh. I wanted so badly to love them and sometimes I truly did and I also truly understand that this is the beginning of a series, she’s a complex character, she’ll have an arc and mature (hopefully). But she’s also on her second marriage raised in a world that didn’t coddle her. I can’t understand why she’s acting like she’s 13. When the love interest said “I love you” I literally could not understand why. She’s loyal? We’re definitely told that more than shown. I even appreciated the deep inner conflict, but I think it was done in a way that made me resent the main character instead of root for her improvement. Also the love interest… he was there! He was protective and secretive and hot! I don’t really know why he felt flat to me… maybe since we only get Freya’s POV? I definitely enjoyed his little mysteries and subplots. I think what I’m trying to say is I felt totally disconnected from these characters to the point where I didn’t care if they lived or died. Idk maybe I’m in a bad mood reading this or maybe it’s just not the book for me because it definitely had its good parts. I think a third person POV may have helped. Also I think another issue is I just don’t click with this author’s writing regardless of how good or well-liked the book is. So it’s probable a me issue. I probably will continue to read the series to see how it progresses.

It is really upsetting how much I wanted this book to end.
