Overall it's a good story but suffers from bad writing and the author's (pathetic) 13-year-old teen boy fantasies that take away from the story. There are far too many let-me-explain-it-to-you monologues which make the story weak (poor writing) and several departures from the plot that make little sense (have no impact on the story or character development) but seem to be added because the author needs to feel masculine. For example, the first few chapters read like a bad porno. I get that these "wise guys" are sexist, that's made clear in how they beat their pregnant wives and treat them like tradable goods, but the long narratives that are there purely to give tribute to make genitals are sad. Even sadder are the women who won't bathe because they've been graced with semen 🙄 or the length at which "women are sluts if they aren't virgins because they should only be possessed by one man" BUT the book did make me gasp out loud which was a first. The narrator (Joe Mantegna from Criminal Minds) provided such a performance that without him, I think this would have been a 2.
