Când am citit prima data această carte, în 2007, am fost spulberat. Mi se păre opera unui geniu. Dupa 12 ani, la o a doua lectură, încă mi se pare una dintre cele mai bune cărți pe care le-am citit vreodată. Dar parcă nu mai e la fel de puternică. Parcă e mai repetitivă decât țineam minte. Parcă e puțin mai naivă, puțin prea directă. Și mai e și pasajul acela de 40 de pagini despre evoluția lui Johnny Fontane, care n-ar aproape nicio legătură cu restul poveștii.
Despre părțile bune ale cărții nu mai elaborez aici. Cine a văzut filmele, să se gândească la ceva un pic mai bun când se pregătește de citit cartea asta.

I read the book and watched the movie. I wouldn't have understood anything if I had done vice versa.
The Godfather is a landmark of filmmaking that has become so embedded in our subconscious that we sometimes forget it began its life as an equally brilliant novel by Mario Puzo. The Godfather revolutionized the crime novel, giving us vividly realized characters we could relate to and fall in love with. The book tells not only the story of the first film, but also much of Vito's backstory that wouldn't be presented on screen until The Godfather Part II. The novel also goes into a lot more detail about Johnny Fontane and Lucy Mancini. It's a very well-written book that you'll become thoroughly absorbed in. You won't want to put it down.

Narration is fantastic. I don't usually go for this genre but it was masterfully written with perfectly paced action.
Pleasantly surprised at what a great easy read this is!! I expected a massive book to match the massive movie acclaim but it’s relatively small. It feels like it was written in the last decade, not decades ago. It’s as relevant today as it was then and it’s a must-read. Clearly a classic for good reason!
