Pleasantly surprised at what a great easy read this is!! I expected a massive book to match the massive movie acclaim but it’s relatively small. It feels like it was written in the last decade, not decades ago. It’s as relevant today as it was then and it’s a must-read. Clearly a classic for good reason!

I remember reading this when it first came out and I was in high school. I was in the back seat of a car on a day long road trip. I was fascinated by the mafia story and the action. I might have to re-read it to see if it holds up.

Update: I have to say this is one of the few books I think is worse than the movie. The writing is just not good. The movie takes all the good stuff and presents it so much better. I loved the book as a teenager but as an adult, it's just not very palatable. Good story, bad dialogue, and bad psychoanalysis.

“Friendship is everything. Friendship is more than talent. It is more than the government. It is almost the equal of family.”

It’s an American Crime fiction which explore the world of organised crime, loyalty and power in America.
The story is about Sicilian immigrant, Vito Corleone also known as Don Corleone or The Godfather, who rises to power as a ruthless mafia don. The novel spans over decades in detail about Don Corleone and his family of 3 sons Sony, Fredo and Mike and a daughter Connie and the various challenges he faces from rival families and the Government. As Vito ages and his era comes to an end the story shift its focus toward’s his favourite son Micheal.

Micheal Corleone, who initially distance himself from the family business to live more like normal civilian life without any threat or business complexity. However, due to series of events forces him to get involved in the family business. With that the story goes on.

Puzo’s writing is very easy to read with lots of prose and it’s very cinematic. Now I get it, why the movie was made and soon became most popular movie of all time. Each and every character has been thoughtfully developed that as a reader you will end up liking and sympathising will all the characters.
As new reader to crime fiction I ended up enjoying the book and I’m looking forward to read all other books from the series.

Another classic checked off the list. Now I just need to see all three movies, right?

Had everything couldn't recommend the book more will certainly be reading it many more times in my life.

I saw the film before I read the book. All I can really say besides the five stars I've given, is that they perfectly compliment eachother! Highly recommend giving this a read, marvellously written.

i've seen the movie twice, but still enjoyed reading this. the movie is fairly faithful to the book (probably partially because puzo got to consult on the screenplay) but as always, there was more going on in the book.

This book definitely interested me in the beginning but by the end I just wanted it to be done.  I know it’s probably a classic of it’s time but I actually texted friends saying my review of it all was “we love the smell of our own farts.” Also, no surprise here since a man in the 60s wrote this, the sex scenes are terrible.

Como ver la pelicula con un poco mas detalle que el autor se destraña
