Can't believe I even picked this up. Terrible read with nothing interesting going on. Childish writing and uninteresting characters, barely a book about a mafia
If you loved the movie, this is a must read. It has been on my bucket list for a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed the insight to each character the movie could not put on the big screen.

Masterpiece - even better than the movie. I loved every single part of this book and Mario Puzo is a fabulous writer.
I’d recommend this book to absolutely anyone. I think your doing yourself a literary disservice if you never read this book.

This book needs no blurb, no introduction. This classic book is a bestseller, is an even huge movie franchise hit, because of it's raw portrayal of the 1940s criminal world. In a world where people can trust no one, Don Corleone, 'The Godfather', extends his help and stands by his word to everyone who comes asking for help. Under him, the Corleone Family is bound together with love, until it was ripped apart by an unfortunate incident. The family faces an issue of succession, and the events that follow sends them spiralling out of control.
When I started reading this book, I thought it would never end, for it is a huge book that narrates a story set in a background I'm not familiar with - the 1940s. But once I got invested in it, there was no stopping. The thing I loved the most about this book is probably it's portrayal of mafia and of their family bonds. No matter what the situation was, they never backed down. And without doubt, Don Corleone is my favorite character.
Don Corleone is a man of much influence, a man of much knowledge, a man of reason and a man who is not to be taken lightly. To him, trust is important. He loves his children and is loyal to his wife. He takes care of their family business in the most just manner. He finds reasoning better than violence, but you better make sure he doesn't choose the latter. And he makes you offers that you can't refuse.
To be honest, even after I finished this book, there were two things that kept tugging at me from the inside - the behaviour of Micheal and the choices made by Kay Adams. The reason why I couldn't digest them is simple - those characters live in the 1940s, and they are to behave so, it is only natural. The book's portrayal of women is something that a reader of today should overlook, I guess.
I tried to write a review a few times before, but I can't seem to place my feelings in words. Bottom line : Go read this classic novel if you already haven't. It might need some patience from your side, but trust me, it's worth it.

Pop Sugar Reading Challenge 2018--A Book about a villain or antihero
This book started out strong, but then fizzled. It just went all over the place. We had subplots with proabortion propaganda, the Hollywood life, women's plumbing issues. I didn't really see the point of most of that.
The good part of the book was Michael's journey from someone who wanted to live a normal life to being dragged (willingly) into the family business.
