Siento que me acaban de inyectar una dosis de sangre siciliana

this was an excellent thriller! knocking off half a star due to
a certain chapter with an entirely unnecessary and graphic depiction of a vaginal reconstruction surgery because um. that was kind of a lot lmao and did not end up relevant to the larger plot

Ka-Pow! The Criminally Modern American Dream

This book really kicked me around. The creative deaths had me pulling away from the book for days in horror, and the desire to see how this world's mixed up form of justice was corrected pulled me right back in.

I also am coming away with a new knowledge of how both some businesses and criminal enterprises work. I was always aghast at the way the impossible obstacles could be removed as long as there were people willing to fulfill a favor.

While this book is highly unethical in every way, I do think this book impressed upon me the definition of the word respect and its usefulness in leadership. A person can't truly win if they treat others ugly.

The characters are fairly thin and the prose a bit cliche, so I was not surprised to find out after the fact that this was considered a "potboiler" by its author. The suspense and pacing make for a very fun read, but it's clear that the cast and creative team of the film are what really made the Corleone family mythical figures.

Total rip off of the Sopranos

Keeping the rather raunchy content and overall distasteful message of the book in mind, I am almost ashamed to admit how much I enjoyed this book. Several portions of this novel were far too graphic for my taste, but other than that, The Godfather seized my attention and refused to relinquish it. As always, any book that gives me a different perspective on life always fascinates me, and The Godfather didn't disappoint.

Before I read this novel, I really didn't know much about the Mafia and the famed gangs of the twenties, and I most certainly couldn't understand what drove people to live this way. I mean, wouldn't you be apprehensive about stepping outside your home for fear of being ''blown away"? But Marco Puzo portrays what we might see as a dangerous and violent lifestyle in such a manner that by the end of the novel, you almost find yourself questioning the idea of an organized, democratic government. After witnessing the struggles of these Sicilian Families and their absolute devotion to honor, you may even find yourself rooting their time-honored tradition of the Mafia.

Having only seen the movies once or twice, it was awesome to get the back story and characters totally mapped out. That being said, I think this is a rare occasion of the movie being better than the book.
