Wrecked!!!
It took everything in me to remain patient for the release of this book. Suffice to say it was well worth it. LJ Shen delivers nothing but her best work. The characters are complex and the well written story will put you through a binge read! Relating to their issues will only make you love this book so much more.
Daria Followhill is the most popular girl at All Saints High, captain of the cheer team, and a vindictively spoiled teenager who lashes out in spite of her mother. Jealousy and resentment barely scratch the surface for this disgruntled bully. What's more, is that Daria is hiding the secrets to her childish antics in one big. Black. Book. One shared secret is what started the rivalry between Penn and Daria.
Penn Scully, the tall built adonis crashes back into Daria’s life with all intentions of ruining her. Sharing the anger that started with his twin sister's disappearance is all the motive he needs.

This book was sent to me by a friend and I loved it. I immediately ordered the rest in the series and cannot wait to read them. I loved all the unique aspects throughout, and feel like it was a lot different from your typical love story. Both MCs need “fixing” in some way. Actually all of the characters need fixing and they all learn how to fix each other together by the end. A message I got from reading this was that no matter how much money you have or how popular you are, you are still prone to being unhappy and having your heart broken. This one was full of cruel love and was totally captivating! Don’t let the high school part of it keep you from reading it, it’s so worth it!
Always be sure to check triggers before reading!

I really enjoyed the character development between the MCs. I liked that she did what she needed to heal and help them grow.
This book is not a must-read, and for the majority of it, I found it to be only okay. It wasn't until close to the end that I became more interested. Additionally, I didn't particularly like the two main protagonists, as their behavior seemed unrealistic and overly dramatic. However, the last few chapters of the book were quite good, and they helped to improve the overall rating.
wtf is this
im so mad this was my first book of the year
daria is a spoiled brat, daddy's girl, and unloved by her mother bc she cant do ballet (her mom loves some other girl who is way better at ballet who is main guy's sister). in hs, she's the most "popular girl" and captain of the cheerleading squad. how original. and guess who penn is? poor boy with abusive family who is the best football player at some school. oh and big shocker, he fights on the side bc that's so original and quirky.
i cant tell if it's a good thing that daria is self aware of her bitchy attitude and rich girl look. on one hand it just makes her an asshole and on the other at least she's not extremely stupid.
diarrhea's diary of sins and the relationship with her principal? DISGUSTING. it seems like everyone in this book needs help. THE PRINCIPAL FUCKING SPANKED HER WITH A RULER. AND WHEN SHE TOLD HER DADDY WHAT HAPPENED, HE GOT ALL HIS FRIENDS AND THEY GANGED UP ON THE PRINCIPAL LIKE THEY WERE BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL.
oh and basically daria and penn ruined penn's twin sister's life by destroying some letter to some ballet school i don't even remember (penn didn't know it was his sisters letter). i cant even remember the sister's name. anyway she ran away and came back acting all nice bc she was living with her dad who was part of a cult? maybe it was this religious think idfk. the sister comes back for revenge on daria and prints out all the pages of the sin diary. is daria fucking stupid? yes she is. did she really not think anyone was gonna look for the diary UNDER HER PILLOW? I MEAN AT LEAST PUT IT IN YOUR CLOSET OR SOMETHING. the day daria gets exposed, somehow everyone ended up confessing a secret they had told no one so they all had leverage over each other?? i mean i dont really think one secret from someone equals daria's million secrets that were thrown everywhere. oh and wanna know how they made this scene "meaningful?" they burned where the papers were and just left as if they didn't commit arson on school property.
ok now im gonna complain about penn
PENN WEARS HOLES IN HIS SHIRTS WHERE HIS HEART IS BC HIS GRANDMA "CURSED" HIM????
WHEN HE REVEALS TO DARIA THE REAL REASON WHY HE PUTS HOLES IN HIS SHIRTS, SHE THINKS ITS SO TRAGIC AND SAD BUT ALSO ROMANTIC. HOW?
IN THE BEGINNING, PENN MOVES IN WITH DARIA BC HER MOM PITIES HIM BC SHE LOVED PENN'S SISTER (better ballerina than daria) AND THE SISTER RAN AWAY YEARS AGO SO SHE WANTS TO HELP FINALLY. FIRST INTERACTION IN YEARS AND THE FIRST THING THAT HAPPENS IS PENN WALKS IN ON DARIA NAKED AND THEY HAVE SOME WEIRD FACEOFF.
penn hates daria's guts for basically driving his sister away. but according to dual pov, his lust overpowers any thought. i completely forgot, daria and penn actually met years ago when they tore up his sister's letter. it was the day they had their first kiss and he made her promise to save all her firsts for him. NOW BACK TO PRESENT DAY, SHES STILL A VIRGIN, HES NOT. NOW HES BASICALLY DEMANDING TO STEAL ALL THOSE FIRSTS ITS SO ANNOYING AND NOT ATTRACTIVE AT ALL.
i honestly dont know who is worse. maybe daria
please read this book if you feel like beating something and ripping out your hair <3

This story has me conflicted atm. There were some bad moments where you felt like it was repetitive at times and then the good moments.
I hated both characters because the heroine was always irritating and then Daria was just straight up annoying at times.
Also Via??? I don’t even want to get into her.

0⭐. I didn't care for Penn and Daria at all. I liked Jaime and Melody a lot in Defy and just couldn't understand why and how Melody has turned into such an awful mother. DNF at 13%.
I loved this book! I loved the writing, the characters, the story. It's such a nice change from all the books I've been reading lately. I just want to gobble up every book by L.J. Shen!
Daria, oh Daria, my little hulk: "My face is not stoic and regal; it’s traitorous and unpredictable. Some wear their hearts on their sleeves—I wear mine on my mouth.
Penn: "Adolescent hearts are trash and as loyal as a starving stray cat. They’ll take anything. Even scraps. I don’t want to feed my rusty tin heart junk."
I highly recommend this book.

This book is a re-read for me that I have completely forgotten about. I loved this book so much and reminded me of why I was obsessed with it before. I love all the of the characters and their flaws. Daria's character reminds me a lot of Devi from the Netflix show, Never Have I Ever. They have internal turmoil that impact the thoughts and actions every second of their life. Also, it is interesting to get insights into the Vaughn's character before Angry God cause that is my favorite book out of the series. I am ready to read Broken Knight! I have high expectations and I hope they are met.
