A killer storyline

Wow, what can I say, but you can’t put this down. Jump in two feet and enjoy the carnage of Psychotic killers, their families and their lovers. Lips sets out to remove herself from her dark and twisted upbringing. Birthed and neglected by a crack addict. She is exposed to a cruel and dark world and her academic excellence is her plan to escape. This is a RH story, which is a little slow on the burn, the backyard on Lips is graphic but lacks details. Great story and a nice “family” twist at the end.

This series caught me up in the story from the first chapter. I absolutely love Lip’s character, doing what she needs to in order to survive, yet still keeping a part of herself. This is an enemies to lovers romance with the suspense that comes when dealing with a secret society. Watching how these relationships unfold, from the ones with her male counterparts and the finding her best friend in Avery, was made these books incredible to read. I loved every minute I spent with the Mounty and her family.

I really enjoyed this!! Super fun RH series.

One thing I really don’t understand is the age of the characters?
The author made them so young
- too young to have done and do everything the plot requires
- to have the influence the plot requires
- and to have all the sex

This is not a realistic book in a lot of ways but it could have been made a bit more believable by ageing the characters up by a few years and having Hannaford Prep be a College rather than a High School.
So I just did it in my head. Poof! Now they are 18 or almost 18 in the first book and Hannaford is a College. So much more enjoyable to read. Then I just glossed over any mention that didn’t dovetail haha.

I do not so this to books usually - I think well if I have to change something in my head to make it appeal to me then I might as well read something else. However I made an exception - because irregardless of the age issue I really enjoyed this! I loved the found family aspect and how the MC was such a badass.

I am excited to check out other works by this author especially The Ties That Bind series.

Look. Hear me out. I have absolutely NO idea why I liked this book so much. These are children. I repeat, children. I can't even remember if there were comprehensive trigger warnings, but that should be on the list if there are. Also, this is very dark. There are quite a few things that could make a trigger warning list. In saying all of this, I could not put this book down.

I found this looking for a book with the bully trope. Boy, does this fit. I thought I was going to read the first book, and then maybe come back. The misogyny and homophobia made me think I was definitely going to not come back. Yet here I am, after having absolutely DEMOLISHED this 4 book series in 5 days. I did borrow the next book in this Mounts Bay world as well. But I couldn't start it right away. It took my partner and a friend to tell me that I need to take a breath and not start the next series. Which was good advice because I was going on vacation.

Again, these are children. 15/16 year old children starting high school. And these bullies are MEAN. But once they decide that they're not going to bully her, I love all of the chemistry. Somehow. Ugh. I feel duped. It really is dark. There's crime lords and assassins and wild manipulations. I've already mentioned the misogyny and homophobia that are rampant. This feels like it's covered under the umbrella of misogyny, but the slut shaming was on another level. A very intense level. And yet, I COULD NOT put this down. I couldn't put it down and I am absolutely going to revisit Mounts Bay at some point. It'll be my guilty pleasure, ok?!

Welcome to the wicked mind of J Bree and her diabolical story telling- hang on tight, it's gonna get crazy, bloody, and super steamy.

J Bree is a consummate world builder- and the Hannaford world is one as sharp as it is welcoming, full of colorful characters with traumatic pasts, grey moral codes, and ever changing agendas. Lips, her men, and all of the fantastic secondary characters are captivating and magnetic. From the early bully push-pull all the way to the epic, heart stopping devotion that ensues, I could feel the chemistry down in my marrow. And what a heroine- there is no one like Lips- powerful, in control, totally alpha- the consummate survivor and the gritty warrior.

Action is no-stop, twists and turns abound, darkness and danger permeate every page- a total page turner and a wild, addictive ride. But what I loved most was the LOVE- and not just the romance, but the familial love. The love and loyalty this make-shift crew has for each other - a love that supersedes the game, a love that overpowers and controls the game. There is now greater power- the friendships, the connections, the devotion this crew of misfits has for each other. I want to live in this world forever!

Came for the steamy romance, stayed for the stabby-stabby.
