I am surprised that this Marvel series from Loeb and Sale doesn't seem to get as much attention as their DC work. While it doesn't create original, character defining new stories, the retelling of foundational loses for the characters is profound and powerful. While some knowledge is useful going into these books, a general knowledge of the character's history or even just seeing the movies/tv shows is enough. For example, in this book, which has Peter reminiscing on his relationship with Gwen Stacy, starts with Spider-man atop a bridge. There isn't any explanation of why he is at that particular location; if you know the comics, it is where the Goblin dropped Gwen to her death. If you know the Garfield movies, you know Gwen dropped to her death, though the location is different. If you don't know either, it is enough to know she died. Anyway, the story is beautiful, the art is excellent. Highly recommended.

This is my all-time favorite Spiderman book, a retelling of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy's story. One of the guys at work lent it to me, and I couldn't believe I had never heard of it before. Its really a great book, absolutely heartbreaking.

This is Spider-Man. Grief, hope, responsibility, love-all packed into 6 beautifully illustrated issues. I wish i could forget this and read it all over again.
