Short and anything but sweet. A good page turner which actually doesn’t leave a sour taste. Loved the ending as well.

Most unsettling. The first sentence set the mood and it was the perfect length for me, my tolerance for spooky demon children is low. Both craving and afraid to eat sour gummies after reading.

A novella--but he does a lot here. It's not a slow burn, there's engrossing action the entire way through, and when I say it twists and turns, it's not because of a surprise ending--there are a few surprises here that I think he pulls off really well. I'm excited to read more by him, although I'm not really one for novellas. Considering how much he packs in here, it seems like it showed restraint for him not to just expand it into a book.
This was my first piece of fiction by Burke, and dammit I LOVE an author that can do some great atmospheric, spooky shit in so few pages.
I think being a speaker of Norwegian myself gave me a somewhat different reading experience than the majority of the intended audience, but it also goes to show just what Burke is able to do with his narrative.
