Stop obsessing over the “lasts.”
Be ready to greet the firsts and yet-unseen nexts that are coming around the bend.
Look alive—they’ll be here any minute now.

KEEP MOVING.

I think this book would have been more relevant to me at another time in my life. Being in a pandemic, most days I feel like I'm in a period of complete eerie non-change. However, I think I'll go back to this book at future points in my life when I am going through upheaval. I particularly liked the chapters addressing her social anxiety when she was younger, as I feel like a lot of self-help books fail to address that in their advice. This motivated me to take small actions toward positive change in my life and made that feel more approachable.

Received arc copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was just a heartwarming, impactful book. There were so many things in this book that I could relate to on a deep level. There were even more that just made me feel good, confident, strong. Ready to take on what may come.

I loved the bits and pieces of a sort of memoir throughout. Hearing the author's experiences was touching. I was able to connect to her story.

This book has something for everyone. So many quotable lines that can just make our day. I was moved by so many points made in this book. I found myself constantly saying "that's so true," or just simply "wow." This book expresses certain emotions and feelings better than I ever could. I highly recommend for anyone who wants a book that will keep them 'moving' forward.

More of 3.5 for me- some of the inspirational sticky notes/ side notes were very meaningful & I feel like o could go back through looking for journaling-starters. But overall, a bit disjointed & the keep moving phrase repetition makes it feel a little gimmicky. Nice thoughts & positive affirmations.

Maggie Smith has written a moving, inspiring, uplifting book of affirmations in verse to help people deal with grief and change during difficult times. A mother of two who had to deal with two miscarriages and a divorce after a 19 year marriage - this book is her answer to healing from hard life changes. So many of these passages spoke to me deeply, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend and a perfect book to read in spring during National Poetry month!

Favorite quotes:
"Accept that you are a work in progress, both a revision and a draft. You are better and more complete than earlier versions of yourself. Be open to change. Allow yourself to be revised."

"It was spring in the world and I had to trust that I was being made new in ways that I couldn't yet see. I imagined the seeds and bulbs sleeping in the dirt waiting for their turn in the light and the air."

"Each season has its gifts. What did my life's hardest season give to me? Most of all, belief in my own ability, not only to come after a long winter, but to grow more stronger, more alive. Belief that change makes everything possible. Belief in my own spring."

"Do not let loss drain the color of everything. Open your eyes to the brilliance around you, it is still here. Keep moving."

"Tell yourself kinder truths. You are not failing at life. You are reeling, sure, but you are succeeding at surviving. Keep moving."

"Prioritize your own happiness, security and happiness. You cannot care for anyone else until and unless you care for yourself. Secure your own mask first. Keep moving."

"Every person you encounter has a struggle, a hidden wound, something they carry that hurts them. Be kind. Maybe something you do today will be the good medicine they need. Keep moving."

"Be brave enough to ask for help when you need it. There is no merit badge for doing all the hard things alone. Reach out. Keep moving."

"So often we think of loss as only destructive but it is also regenerative because every ending is also a beginning."

"Even if you do not feel brave, practice bravery. There will be times in your life when you feel as if life is burning down around you but know that renewal is in its wake."

"Stop waiting on some grand permission to change your life. The universe is not going to tell you it's okay. Tell yourself it's ok. Keep moving."

"Let change, even traumatic upheaval, remind you that anything is possible. When the dark cloud of chaos hangs over you, let possibility be the silver lining. Keep moving."

"Train yourself to crave experience not perfection."

"Be as accommodating with yourself as you are with the people you love. Do not hold yourself to some impossible standard. Cut yourself some slack. You are human and you are trying. Keep moving."

"Living is a hopeful act in itself. It's a choice we make daily: to be. To keep being."
