A pretty decent YA paranormal romance. Aislinn (pronounced "Ash-lynn") has always been able to see fairies. And she's always been able to ignore them, until two start following her everywhere she goes. One is The Summer King, Keenan, who believes Ash is his Queen. The other is Donia, the last girl Keenan tried to make Queen, who wasn't "The One".

Keenan was my biggest problem with this book. I am fairly certain that Marr wrote him to be unlikeable, but I'm just not sure. He was arrogant, rude and drugged Ash to get his way...and then expected her to be grateful that he didn't take advantage of her while she was passed out. Um, what a great guy?

Ash was a decent heroine and, unlike most YA heroines, she had a personality. I liked that she stood up to Keenan, even though he kept trying to pressure/trick her into doing what he wanted. Seth, her mortal crush, was probably the best character in the book. He was well-rounded, and actually cared more about Ash's feelings than his own.

The villain was very two-dimensional, and the final battle was over in two pages. A lot of build-up for a complete non-event. But, overall, an enjoyable book that I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a few days of light-reading.

Realized within the first couple chapters that I’d actually read this before, at least five if not more years ago—but by that time I was hooked. Compelling characters struggling against what seems a certain fate is always a fun read in my book, especially when they find a third choice you couldn’t predict. Enjoyable, even the second time.

Was okay...but kind of meh to me. Didn't really hook me.

Why did I wait so long to review Wicked Lovely? It was not very bright of me to go onto the next book in the series before I reviewed this one, since it's altered my perception of the story.

Obvs I enjoyed Marr's first entry in the Wicked Lovely series enough to keep going. I thought I LOVED it at first, but as time passed and I got a little further away from the story I settled down into just liking it a lot.

Most of the characters in Wicked Lovely are clearly delineated as "good" or "bad," "likeable" or "unlikeable." The exception is Keenan, whom I'm pretty sure we're supposed to like -- but he's a jerk. Aislinn is a strong, smart heroine for the most part, and her human love interest is written to be 100% catnip, to the point where he's almost one-dimensional but so thoughtful and sweet compared to Keenan that I don't care.

I did have some issues with major events occurring and just being sort of dropped into the story -- no biggie, just someone's life changed forever, didn't think to mention that til now, we'll just emo for a sentence or two and then we're over it. There are also a few little asides that are clearly set-ups for other parts of the series; they jar a bit.

For the most part, though, I enjoyed the hell out of this story, and I'm planning on finishing the series.

p.s. I can't be the only one who crosses her fingers and googles these authors to make sure they're not BFFs with Cassie Claire.

Super YA, the one potentially spicy scene was mild but mostly fade to black. Neat take on fae with them being fucking terrible creatures. I think the plot could have used some work I didn't like feeling like you didn't have all the information from any of the characters not even at the end. However I did like the Aislinn still ended up with Seth and Keenan and Donia got to be together.

Of all the supernatural, Shifter are my favorite, but a good faerie story can certianly temp me. Like the story this review is going to be short & sweet. Maybe.

The concept was well done, the writing strong. Melissa has given unbreaking characters which I feel in a Fae story is a must.
As mentioned above, sorta I felt this story was fast paced and had the potential to be a bit more indepth and potentially longer. Even though I enjoyed the journey, I absolutely hated the ending.

Read over Thanksgiving. Once I "got" the faery story, I was involved, but that took a bit to follow. Great strong female protagonist.
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No

Some of the only books about the fair folk written by an American author that I can actually read without  cringing (I’m looking at you Sarah J Maas). I also love how most of the characters are moody little emos!
