Engaging story but pacing seemed a bit off at times and kind of dragging in places
This book was an okay read. It does not have the emotional power of books like The Warmth of Other Suns (another historical nonfiction). I think she fails to place this story in the larger context which would give the story more punch and sometimes falls flat on descriptions of the tragedies the POWs faced. There were also some timeline issues at the end which were very confusing. I wish I had connected more with the people in the story but for some reason they did not come off as powerfully as they should have given their amazing story.

Unbroken is a book about the story of track-and-field athlete Louis Zamperini's war-time and post-war time experiences, exploring the themes of survival, resilience, and redemption. This is one of the books that delves deeply into faith and internal struggles, specifically in the way Louis dealt with the ruining of his running career, the gut-wrenching inhumane experiences and trauma in the POW camps, and the eventual letting-go and forgiveness to his cruel captors, led by god and faith himself. It gives the reader a unforgettable insite on the experiences of soldiers and captors during the WW-II era. It alao explores the fundamentals of friendships, allowing the readers to reflect on what bonding together during the hardest of times actually means. As a whole, the book serves as reflective memoir of all the soldiers that perished in the prisoner of war camps. This is one of the books I've most enjoyed reading and reflected the most on.

Great true story about a man's fight for survival in WWII. What this man endured and lived through is unbelievable. I was riveted, with my heart pounding through many portions of the book (particularly their struggles adrift on a raft in the Pacific). I agree with one of my friends that I would have liked to know more about the mental states and emotions of the characters, and that might have been the added dimension that would make this book a 5 star. But I still highly recommend this book!
Absolutely amazing story. Couldn't put the book down.
