I like this book a lot better than the last one. Rose and the rest graduate from high school, her and Adrian are dating and he has to meet her father, she gets her official promise mark. Then the book it's weirder. She hatches a plan to break Victor out of prison, to get to his brother to learn how to change Dimitri back from a strigoi to a dhampir. Somehow her crazy plan works and Dimitri becomes a dhampir once again. He is immediately locked up, but is released with just guards when they realize he really is no longer a strigoi. The friendship between Lissa and Rose gets tested once again because Dimitri decides he does not want roses company but does want Lissa because he thinks he owes her his soul. Dimitri gets rather mean to Rose and she takes refuge in Adrian and lets him take blood from her. There's is a weird relationship but I do like rose and Adrian as a couple. Even his mom is relatively supportive and his aunt the queen is supportive mostly. When Rose is arrested Dimitri kind of lost it and made me believe Christian and Adrian might not be wrong about him still having strigoi left in him. Abe shows up to be the lawyer for Rose, but they lose the first trial so she's going to have to actually go on trial for the murder of the queen. As they're leaving Rose receives a note from Ambrose that the queen had reasons for lowering the age of dhampir Guardians and says the key is to find the illegitimate child of Eric dragomir. As the bookends Rose realizes that it is not just her future at stake but if she's found guilty of treason she will be executed. After all of this I cannot wait to read the next book and I'm going to start it immediately.
This one is definitely leading up to the series finale. It has so many irons in the fire. The first half of the book is kind of craze-balls. In the quest to turn Dimitri from Strigoi, they successfully break into a maximum security prison. For reals? And the battle to come, Lissa is going to do what? For reals, again? Then Dimitri’s reaction, just floors me. EMILY SHAFFER‘s gangster dirty Russian really fits him right now. I would say, “are you confused yet?” but I know that everyone has already read it.
The court crap is exactly that. But Rose and Adrian did lend me a few smiles. I’m almost to the finish line. One more book to wrap it all up.

I loved this book. It definitely felt like I became a part of the story. I wish I could reread this one for the first time already. The drama that ensued between rose and dimitri was perfection and I loved getting to see rose and lissa together again.
There were a few slight edit oversights in the ebook but nothing major.

WTF? This book was freaking insane I read it super fast and was never bored! Rose got on my nerves a bit because I love Adrian so much and don't really care for Dimitri, but I digress and au loved it anyway! Can't wait to start Last Sacrifice!!

I was pretty bored for the first half of this book but it picked up about half way. So many things happened it felt like I was bopping about from plot line to plot line without much emotion for a while. There was relationship drama, political drama, a heist, and this whole thing with Dimitri turning into a comic book villain as a Strigoi.
Despite all these many dramas, the most messed up part of the book was Lissa being jealous of a literal 14 year old girl. Like stop, she’s not going to steal your boyfriend, she’s 14. On a similar note, why does Christian blame her for kissing that guy while compelled in the last book? She was being MIND CONTROLLED. It’s stupid and I’m mad about it.
I wasn’t mad about the thing that happens about halfway through though. I loved that. Perfect way to get both hurt and comfort in large doses. Another thing I kinda loved was Rose’s relationship with Abe. There’s a lot that could be done with that after the information the end of the last book gave us.
The heist bored me. It felt too easy and lacked real consequences.
I’m going to be purposefully as vague as possible for the next paragraph but be warned this is VAGUELY SPOILERY.
I feel that despite how far Rose has come concerning her growth as a person, she’s still unbelievably selfish. She is more concerned about her feelings for Dimitri than about the horrible things he’s gone through and his trauma from that. He needs major therapy and she’s like wah wah wah my poor broken heart. Like girl give him space and focus on your actual boyfriend please. She uses all the people around her with little to no thought about how they are being affected by her actions.

The politics that are happening right now are extremely interesting.
I've really been enjoying this series. I'm just reading for enjoyment and entertainment, not expecting anything profound. Just fluffy fun, but a story that keeps me interested.
The last book had left us with some possibilities of returning a Strigoi to his former state. All that entails made for a pretty action packed book with some personal struggles to pull on the reader's emotions.
I started this on the return from family vacation, happy to find a downloadable audio format from the library. I had read the first books, so the "voices" were new to me and a little difficult to adjust to (even though some obviously had accents, I hadn't been doing that in my head). Of course I think I'd also been pronouncing several key words differently. Once home, I reverted to reading ...
