I am still pondering this one. Hawthorne is a flawed character, and there are other issues. I hope to write something coherent before release date at my blog.

Update: while I wrote my review, I re-considered my rating, and upped it. My review is now at my blog.

Copy provide by Netgalley and read with thanks. Released January 3.

Not the story I was expecting at all, but a quick and entertaining read. Protagonist was a little cringeworthy and annoying at times, but the voice was great. I do believe that the marketing for the book was extremely misleading

Torn between liking this and not liking this. There were some great parts and good insights and passages but, god, I was so over Hawthorn, her forced eccentricities, and her obsession with Lizzie. Really, every time she mentioned Lizzie, I found myself rolling my eyes. And she mentioned the name many, many, MANY times.

The summary of this book intrigued me when I first read it. Then I saw reviews on how people didn't like it, and how other people loved it. I thought I would give this book a try, and I couldn't put it down.

I thought the character development was on point--I loved the struggles and changes we see in Hawthorn throughout the book and how her friendship with her best friends has its struggles. I think every teenage girl goes through problems like that.

I like Hawthorn's attitude and how she struggles to grasp tragedy. I highly recommend this book. Probably one of my favorite quotes from this book is:

"True artists know how to cut their subjects open and bleed them onto the canvas" (p. 167).

What a great way to start off my summer reading. 10/10 stars!!! :D

Ughh I don’t really know how i feel about this book! It was kinda ridiculous and not really believable for the majority of the book. The ending was somewhat redeemable in my eyes but i have no idea how to rate this?
I’m gonna leave it at 2 stars for now and write a review when I collect my thoughts!

There were some highs and lows in this book. I found Hawthorn to be very immature for her age but I liked her character growth. Other characters were not as fleshed out as they could have been.

**I received this books from NetGallery as a free sample in exchange for an honest opinion**

Overall, I enjoyed the book. Hawthorn is a sassy teenage girl. I love what Chelsea Sedoti does with Hawthorn's voice. She believable and funny. She also does stupid things that I believe most people will be able to relate too.

However, there were aspects of the story that were predictable and even unlikely, especially dating/sleeping with such an older man. The parents didn't seem concerned or do much regarding the amount of time she spent with an older man. But, I may be naive to think that most parents pay attention to what their kids do, but maybe not.

She dealt with a huge variety of issues that affect high school students and I believe she did a marvelous job helping us see life through different eyes. I'd recommend reading this book folks. Hawthorne cracked me up!

I’m not sure what I expected, but it wasn’t what I read. I found the main character difficult to connect to, mainly because she seemed whiney and naive. I felt like other characters made fun of her age a lot, which would have been funny if it weren’t so painfully true. I didn’t have everything figured out by 17, but I hope I was slightly less annoying.

Additionally, I didn’t feel like the book had a “big question”. It kind of just seemed like we were chugging along through one girl’s life for no reason other than she was willing to tell the story. I wasn’t bored, but I wasn’t impressed either.

I did really enjoy reading the book, and found it to be a good, mostly light, YA novel.

I don't know. Rating might change once i write the review. UGH The character pissed me off so much and the story to me was deceiving, i don't know i expected something different.
