sequel all’altezza del primo libro

4.5 Stars … close enough to a 5, so I caved and gave it that on Goodreads!
As with the previous book, this is complete and utter chaos, but in a good way. I’m going to block this with spoilers because you can’t talk about the plot of this book without relating it to the first book, so I figure it's better safe than sorry … right 🙂
We pick up at the point where Finlay knows that someone is considering killing her husband, and it appears that a hit has been placed on him. She panics and, with Vero’s help (even though I’m pretty sure Vero thinks a hit on Steven is a good idea), they both know that if Steven has the kids, it could put them at risk.
The usual craziness ensues along with Finlay under the gun again to get her manuscript going, which just happens to be due … AGAIN!! Finlay is a mess. Even worse than book one. Plus, she’s got her young dude, Julian, and the handsome detective Nick, who works with her sister, to juggle. Which of the two will survive this round of Finlay craziness?
Now, what marked it down for me from Book One was that I guessed almost from the beginning who posted in that women’s forum. It was so obvious and frankly, in my “normal” mind, I thought it pretty normal that this person was just bitching about Steven … not putting out a contract, which is exactly what happened. I’ll keep who it was to myself for this review, but I think it’s not hard to figure out. Someone did take it seriously, just like Finlay, and multiple attempts on Steve’s life happened. Even though the friggin’ idiot thinks it’s all BS and that Finlay is behind it. Meanwhile, she’s been trying to save his ass. Pretty much figures, but I think he got by the end.
And of course … We can't have enough fun without the addition of the Russian mafia kingpin, Zhirov. Finlay’s interaction with him, his lawyer and again with Irina are hilarious. And damn, I wish she could have kept that car!!! I’m pretty sure Vero did too!!
Onto Book Three and certainly looking forward to it!!

This one suffered from a “sophomore slump” for me. While I did finish it quickly, it felt like I just wanted it to be done rather than wanting to know how it ended. That was disappointing to me but I found myself excited to continue the series still so I’m going to call that an overall win.
