Book was pretty flat and so were the characters but it proved interesting especially
in the end with the Amma plot twist. You could sort of see it coming and it was so close to the end that it wasn't really enough to help the rest of the book but I’m glad it was there

A beautiful, disturbing telling of dysfunctional family and the dark things girls are capable of doing to one another. Gillian Flynn's trademark simple yet evocative writing style paints each new scene like a car accident, grotesque and yet something difficult to look away from. It speaks uncomfortable truths about the nature of families and our own need to justify our past sins as well as the sins of our parents; how even the most broken often still seek comfort in those who have hurt them. While Sharp Objects is by no means an easy read for those who have grown up in claustrophobic, suffocating households, I would recommend it to anyone capable of stomaching it.

This book was a really good exploration of small town america, mental illness,  and this mother-daughter relationship that threads through several children. I've already known the twist of this book as I was previously spoiled but it was not any less terrifying to see it unfold. The story unravels really well and some characters are so unlikable that you marvel how they're written. Beneath all the gore and vulgarity, an analysis of relationships and how trauma develops gets put on spotlight. Can't wait for Flynn's next novel, whenever that may be.

Sickening and sinister, family secrets, morally grey characters

Had watched the show several years ago and now decided to read the book. Didn't disappoint obviously, in fact I think the show portrayed the story and characters very well.

I felt for the main character but also found myself put off by some of her choices. The details were often gory and unsettling, definitely not for the squeamish.

Will definitely try others by this author.
