I think I really need to make a concerted effort to consume better audiobooks... I listened to this b/c someone on booksta reviewed it (and because this came up in conversation). roberson identifies (without naming) heteropessimism, but this book doesn't engage with this topic in a meaningful way. it's written in a lighthearted way, and I found myself laughing at blythe's antics and excitement sometimes, but it has some of the worst tendencies of liberal progressives (throwing buzzwords around to gesture at allyship without concrete or materially considering the perspectives of marginalised people)

It’s a bleak world out there

This was very helpful to read at this time with everything going on in the world. I was hopeless on dating and just hating all people in general for falling down this rabbit hole that is patriarchy’s butt!

Had fun with it even though I neither date nor hate men

What I loved about this book is that it was like listening to a friend. Since it’s been written life hasn’t changed that much and I thought it was fun and validating to hear similar thoughts.

I spent the entire 6.5 hours of this book trying to come up with ways to write a scathing enough review for the absolute misery that is this book. Unfortunately for me, I was blinded by the title and didn’t read the reviews, so I had no clue the hell I was about to endure. I would’ve DNFed this book but I really, really want to get closer to my goal so I sat through the torture.
I picked up this book as a queer person expecting well thought out narratives that anyone who loves men can relate to. Instead, I wasted 6 hours of my life listening to a whiny millennial white woman talk about how oppressed she is by her inability to be emotionally mature enough to date. This book is the furthest thing from relatable. I’m sure this review will end up in her next post sandwiched between more whining about celebrities and her lack of conversational skills in a relationship.
Save yourself and skip this one at all costs.

hilariously written and honest, this is the only dating advice book you will ever need
