I was getting so invested and then the rushed ending happened :)

This is a great view of the faerie world where they aren't cute little magical beings. The faeries here can be downright mean and dangerous.

One of my favourite children's book! Great story building and interesting lore.

This book is really fabulous in the genre of middle grade fantasy. Unique, yet drawing off folklore, Harrison keeps the reader on the edge of their seat the entire book. I even dreamed about it while I read it.

this was my favorite book series in 5th grade besides harry potter. my friend and i were about to buy the bracelet that “kept the faeries at bay” lmao

13 Treasures seemed to be a good younger teen novel, but it never quite worked. It wasn't as scary as it could have been or interesting as it should have been. The 13 treasures didn't work smoothly with the fairies plaguing the heroine. I don't know if it's because the book was first published in the UK or because there is such a glut of fairie books on the market, but this one just didn't feel inspired enough to me.

I like the heroine, Tanya. She's not the typical heroine in these types of books. But she doesn't really make me want to root for her. In fact, there were times where I wanted to be the one to point her out to the fairies and allow them to torment her more. The problem was that her relationship with the fairies changes depending on the rules of the throughout the book and the reader is left scrambling to make it all make sense.

I think the problem with the book is that the world-building doesn't come together in a way that makes sense for the final confrontation. And the villain isn't really villainous until the end, which makes no sense. Overall, it was a fun read, but I'm not sure I'll be looking for the next book in the series.

I liked this book. Unlike some JF books, this is not all action with touches of plot. Everything is built upon like a good detective novel should be. It even introduces and involves characters for the next book in the series. This is a very well written book with a subtle depth that can be overlooked by some.
