I forced myself to read this book because I wanted to use it as my November Mystery Book in the library, and of course, I can't come up with clues unless I've read it.
I figured I would like it, because it's the sort of book I tend to like, but I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did. It was well-written, the characters were developed nicely, and it seemed as if the author had done her research on fairly lore. I usually enjoy books that combine the modern every-day world with unseen and magical worlds, and this did the job nicely.
It was quite a page turner. I burned through it pretty quickly.

Could not put this book down. This book had the perfect combination of humor, mystery, and adventure to keep you hooked.
This was enjoyable! Despite it being a book about kids I actually enjoyed it! It reminded me a bit of Fablehaven.
Amazingly well-written, with beautifully developed characters, tons of plot twists and suspense. I love all the traditional fairy tale elements, retold in a modern setting with it's own voice. I can't wait to read the rest of this series. Truly imaginative!

13 Treasures is the type of book I think I would have liked when I was 10. Sadly, half a decade later, I am a different person and I did not really enjoy this book.
The characters were nothing special and the plot was only OK. There wasn't anything wrong with this book, so if you're interested, I definitely think you should still read it. I hope you enjoy it more than I did :/

I just like good fairies to act good and bad fairies to act bad. They all acted pretty bad in this book and it left me less pleased with the book as a whole.
A girl missing 50 years ago, her ghost in the woods, false murder charges, sinister twists, protection gained by the color red, and some good friends.
Tanya was born with the second sight, which means she can see fairies and other mythical creatures. This wouldn't be so awful if the creatures didn't make her life miserable. She's never met anyone else with the second sight, which makes her life even more difficult. She's sent to live with her grandmother in a mysterious old mansion, where a case of a missing girl might get her more answers about her power. I liked this book a lot- it was my second time reading it. The first time was a long time ago, so it was nice to read it again. It was not my favorite, but it was suspenseful and a good book
First, I probably should give a disclaimer. I read this book while I was feeling stressed out about my laptop crashing . . .it gave me a great way to get my mind off that problem. At the same time, that background stress may have affected the way I read the book. I hope to read it again and review it again at a later date.
I liked, and really liked, this book in turns. At some points I sympathized with the main character, Tanya, and at others, I didn't. I wanted just a little more interaction between Tanya and her grandmother, and more between herself and those who are later revealed to be her guardians.
At the same time, I really enjoyed her growing trust and friendship with both Fabian and Rowen, and I'm looking forward to reading more about all these characters in their next adventure, the 13 Curses.
The urban fantasy setting felt very detailed, and Tanya's interactions with the faerie world were very well written.
