I loved this book as a kid. I remember skipping a basketball game because I just had to finish it. I did NOT see the plot twist coming.
A quick and enjoyable read, though unremarkable. The novel's prologue was slightly unnecessary, and was basically a truncated section that was ripped from the middle of the book.
Some of the characters' motivations are a bit flimsy, which renders some of their actions in a questionable light.

Very exciting fantasy- I`m sure I`ll be able to booktalk this one and have some takers.
Ok, so this book wasn't really that bad. It was Tanya who ticked me off.
If there's one thing I don't like, it's slow characters. Sure–add in a slow sidekick for comic relief, but the main character? Come on. Plus, this book wasn't written to be humorous (at least the way I interpreted it).
So, back to Tanya. The solution is right in front of her. 13 treasures, which the gypsy even told Tanya what they were, but not once did she think about the bracelet! And the time where they were in the forbidden woods, and a stranger comes up to them and says she'll lead them to their dog, and they decide to follow her...This screams bad idea! Oh, and don't even get me started on the lock of hair. So they figure out that (evil) Morwenna is in the fairy realm, and they are told a lock of hair would keep them young while they're in there. Put two and two together! The lock of hair Amos has is the only thing that keeps the evil girl from aging. At least Fabian figured it out. And really, Tanya? If fairies have been tormenting you all your life, how hard is it to Google: "how to repel fairies" or "fairy facts"?! It would've told you a lot more than that musty old book!
Besides Tanya's "little" shortcomings, the plot is solid and I kept at it until the end. Even though the book would've gone faster if Tanya was a more perceptive 12 year old! (I mean, I get it if she's 8 years old, but twelve?) Good book overall, however. Hopefully Tanya matures by the sequel!
Oh, wait.
The description says Tanya's 13. *facepalm*

This was an amazing book I can’t wait to read the next two. Over all I say 5 stars and I feel like this book definitely left you on a cliff hanger. I still have questions that need answers and I hope that they will be answered in the next books.

I'd give this book twenty stars if Goodreads could let me.
I have not been enthralled or captivated by a book in a very long time
& I'd like to thank Michelle Harrision for writing this book.
I love that Michelle didn't hold back on gruesome moments, or decrease the amounts of blood just because this is a middle-grade novel. Children are exposed to worse everyday, why shield them from realistic events? Michelle has also inspired me, as an author not to hold back on things that may be too YA or Adult for middle-grade readers. THANK YOU MICHELLE!! I cannot wait to devour the rest of the trilogy & join Tanya on her next fantastic adventure.
