This is almost like a modern-day Harriet the Spy with a young girl making observations about the world around her and then writing them down. Like Harriet, Cici makes some missteps in her personal life, her journal becoming more important than her friends or listening to her mother. It's a charming book with a built-in mystery. It is a little preachy and, like most graphic novels, it takes a loooong time to load the pages on an ereader.

This was a fun middle-grade graphic novel starring Cici, an amateur detective uncovering the hidden mysteries of her hometown. I loved the imaginative, but realistic storylines.
Cici’s Journal was a two part mystery journal containing a variety of mixed illustrations in photos, art supplies, drawings, articles, and journal notes. I absolutely loved the details of every page. The story was illustrated so beautifully that I cannot believe the cover does not match the beauty of what you will find inside.
Cici is a curious young girl who loves a good mystery. She enjoys people watching, particularly “mysterious” elderly citizens within her community and this gives Cici inspiration for the stories she will one day write as she dreams of becoming a novelist.
The stories are ultimately about helping others, and learning a few hard lessons on why you should open up about your feelings, make time for friends, and to not lie to parents. I think there should have been more discussion about the consequences of lying to parents which Cici does repeatedly, but other than that small detail I wouldn’t change a thing.
This book is perfect for a new generation of young mystery readers. I would highly recommend this for any young reader who is imaginative, curious, or into mystery books.

I heard about this book from an author I follow an twitter, and found a used copy at Powell's. I'm so glad I did, as it is absolutely lovely! The book actually includes the first two parts, and each part is a different story and investigation by Cici. Both were cute and quite touching, and provided some good lessons along the way - and the artwork was perfect for the stories. So happy I got this, and can't wait to share it with my daughter <3
Cici's Journal is a unique graphic novel written by Joris Chamblain.
Gotta say, the unique art style is what pulled me in during the first few pages, but the intriguing story is what will keep you. The story about Cici, a young writer, is a fun one. It's unique, mysterious and will pull you along as you read. I like the various ways the author changed things up - the journals, the pictures - it stands out among the crowd, as they say.
Overall, this is a great, unique read! I wasn't the target audience for sure, but it was cool!
Two out of five stars.

Cici dreams of becoming a writer, so her author friend tells her to watch people and make up stories about them. Cici notices a man carrying paint cans into the woods every weekend, and she needs to find out what he’s doing. She follows him and eventually discovers a beautiful secret. In another mystery, Cici finds a library book card for a book that has been taken out by the same woman over and over again. Cici’s curiosity takes over again and she has to investigate why the woman keeps reading the same book.
Cici was quite a curious child. She often seemed nosy, when she would watch people and want to find out what they were doing. I didn’t really like this quality, but Cici ended up helping the people who she investigated, so it worked out in the end.
I liked that this story featured elderly characters. There aren’t a lot of older people in children’s books. Cici was able to help them relive their pasts and create some nice memories. Though Cici was nosy, she ended up helping people.
Cici’s Journal is a good middle grade graphic novel.

This was so good. I really hope more from the series gets released in English.
Cici always seemed to find trouble but somehow it all ends up okay in the end. Part two(Hectors Book) was my favorite. I loved how cici was able to find out the message hector was trying to tell rose. I didn’t like that it costed her relationship with people, but I’m glad it all ended up okay in the end.

This one got my attention with he premise, a girl that love to play detective and wants to be a writer, so nice actually.
The first story was so amazing, really made me think what this mr. mysterious was and what he was doing, even thought for a moment he was a bad guy at any point since it was so shush and all.
Loved the idea of a very different museum was pretty awesome and cool, at the end it was heartwarming and nice.
The second story was heartbreaking in a good way actually, really liked the ideas of encrypted messages it's a good way to go and the mention of the II world war awesome, there's so much interesting things in that period.
The illustrations were fantastic, really well done and cozy it was an experience, perfect for middle graders or just lovers of art and good stories.

This was fine. The art was cute and the premise was interesting, but the tone was a little strange. It definitely sounded like it was being written by an adult rather than a ten year old (main character’s age). The entire book was aimed at teaching empathy, and I don’t know how successful it would be with a kid, but it didn’t do much for me.
