Good God, what a mess. What was happening? Who were the characters? Why were they all such assholes? This was truly awful.

Dimensional travel. Ought to have been cool. But instead it was monster of the moment running yelling betraying trash. Somewhere someone ought to tell these writers that having an understandable plot was important. That a hook alone isn't enough. There are stories in this book that look like they are worth telling. Don't expect to read a sequel.

It's one dimensional and it's endlessly pulpy throughout. It's nothing revolutionary, but it's effective in what it does and has no problem simply being there for a cheap thrill (which looks pretty darn great while doing so).

However, not for everyone if you're looking for something with a little more substance!!!

Let me preface my review with this: I am no comic book expert, I read comic books to break up the chunky fantasy novels I read.
Alright, let's get into it. I enjoyed Black Science, I've yet to delve into Volume 2 but have it sitting next to me as I type this. Will I be reading it? Yes. I enjoyed the story, the art, and the characters. You have to accept that the main character's fatal flaw is his narcissism, poor me I'm a terrible man, narrative. Once you accept that, the story is much more enjoyable. While I found the tech-modified Natives against the Germans intriguing it felt like a stereotypical, slightly racist take on Natives. Perpetuating this idea that Natives are "savages". But luckily it is a small part of the story that ended as quickly as it began, but I believe it's worth noting to readers.
Now, why did I not rate it 5 stars? Because of the aforementioned sprinkle of racism.  But also because I can tell this was written & illustrated by men. Why in the ever-living hell does the fish lady have huge boobs, yet the fish men are saved from having their bits on display? Misogyny. That's the answer.

We will see if there are any more enslaved dancing fish ladies with huge knockers in the next Volume.

Wish me luck.

The concept was super cool, traveling and trapped in infinite alternate realities? Yep, sounds awesome, but the character.. not so much, just felt one dimensional to me, and at the beginning they were drawn pretty similarly so it was quite hard to distinguish them. The story took quite a while to really get into. At the beginning it was confusing and disjointed, but definitely got better later. It was fast paced and very fun to read though

MEH. I was super excited for this comic and it ended up just bring meh. I liked the story, don't get me wrong, but it was just kind of boring. I really liked the concept; being trapped hopping between dimensions and trying to get home. The art style was okay. I thought a lot of the characters were drawn to look TOO similar and there was no proper introduction so I was mostly unable to tell the difference between them.

I enjoyed it but the plot jumped around too much for my liking. They are in one dimension then another and we don't get time do adjust to the setting. I found it kind of frustrating overall. As much as I enjoyed this story- it was entertaining and clever- it kind of annoyed me. I'm not super interested in pursuing the series further.
