I liked this book. I really did. In fact I kind of fell in love with it too.
I felt like it was easing my mind a bit, making me feel at peace while reading it. Ness is a really good writer and I felt immediately invested in the protagonists life’s.
I do see the parallels between what is (in this book) the side plot and Buffy, buuuut I have to admit that I don’t see that as as a flaw.

I found myself very pleased when the protagonists acknowledged how absolutely impractical the things are that happen to the “Indie Kids”. And it kind of reminded me of a question I keep asking, in books and movies alike; Does no one notice this? Or; who’s going to clean up this mess now?

At the same time it eased me.
I have a strong fear of the future and as I will be graduating next year it is all kind of cluttering my mind.
The protagonists have similar fears, of not being able to get their life together because of multiple reasons and they still manage to go trough life.
As I was finishing it I felt like I usually do after a session with my psychologist - at ease, relaxed and most of all relieved.

I do understand that this book may not be it for everyone - but I really enjoyed reading it and will definitely recommend it to everyone willing to listen.

The concept of this book is so interesting but it also tackles some serious issues - I wish I had read a book like this in high school!

The Rest Of Us never get to be the vampires' life-source, or the amulet-wielding hero/ine, or the one who saves the day while aceing all our tests and eating healthily to boot.

The Rest Of Us are the ones who have dysfunctional families and phobias, the ones who worry about the future and what-if-everything-goes-wrong, the ones who would be anything - do anything - for the people they love.

The Rest Of Us are the ones who worry about how groups have one person everybody likes the least, needs the least, and am I that person?

The Rest Of Us aren't normal at all. None of us are normal. We've got problems and issues and things we can't control, no matter how much we want to. We might not have to battle crazy, blue-eyed policemen or hide from stampeding zombie-deer, but we do have to get through every day of our lives, and that in itself is a feat, what with our paranoia, crises, anxieties and finding ourselves.

But in the end, the good times mostly outweigh the bad times, and we find out secrets we should have seen but disn't because we were being stupidly self-absorbed, and we read books like The Rest Of Us Just Live Here and are reminded that The Rest Of Us are all heros and heroines, because, like, at the risk of sounding totally cliche...

We are all the main characters in our lives. I mean, can you imagine being anybody else?

I cannot adequately express how much I loved this book.

I didn't think that I would like this book, but I was wrong. Again. I really really liked the concept of this book, as it's something that I've never read before. I thought the little updates they gave on the "indie kids" were so funny, and I actually found myself really enjoying that part. The characters seemed like real people, going through normal issues that people face everyday, even if they weren't always likable.

Definitely a different read, and I can see why some people might not like it, but I definitely recommend people to at least check it out!
