Snarky humor and witty observations abound in this short collection of personal essays about Gary Janetti's traveling philosophy. The first chapter pretty much sets the scene for Janetti's type of humor, which is abundantly complaining about everything and everyone. From people who go on wellness retreats to airplane passengers that like to tell their life story to British people, he's got a remark for it all. I was a little put off with the first chapter, to be honest, but once I got used to his humor I did find some of what he had to say quite laugh out loud funny.
Janetti's style of writing can and will be off putting for some people, as it blatantly comes across as just a long bit of complaining. It may not be very fun to read. But, having known people with this exact sense of humor, I almost read it as a defense mechanism against just how mean the world can be, and it takes a little bit of peeling back the subtext behind the harsh truth that you'll start to see the fun-loving human being there is inside. Looking at it through that lens, I can find myself amused at times listening to his endless rants about cruises and travel destinations.

If you follow Gary Janetti on IG, like me, you might remember some of these travel tales from his nearly-love updates. And it only makes them better (and funnier). There are great travel tips here, and some of the most wonderful places to go, but it's the heart in the book that makes this completely charming and engaging. I laughed out loud many times (sorry, airplane seat mates...at least I didn't try to chat), but was touched enough to cry some times, too. This one's a keeper.
