Demons, familiars, and mages gay romance — and poly at that— all in one book, anyone? Say no more. Bel, Nico, and Garen were a perfect trifecta for this hilarious urban fantasy story.
Considering this was only the first book, there's not much super life-threatening magical missions yet (at least to my expectations). Not sure if we'll get more in the sequel but this book appears more of an introduction into Bel, Nico, and Garen's story and their world. The little missions though seemed vital to the progression of their relationship. A Mage's Guide to Human Familiars had a fast-pace romance although it also featured a second-chance at love for two of the MCs, pretty much an already established relationship with another MC getting into the mix. This also involved an age gap, with one MC being significantly younger than the other two.
As much as I love the three musketeers, I can't help but adore Wicky throwing off those hilarious one liners at the cave mission. Bless him.

It's pretty charming and lighthearted.
I also like how casual the dialogue and narration about things concerning magic is (sometimes even with a touch of boredom when something has to be explained to a given character) - it makes the world feel more real. The world itself is not all that developed but it is interesting.
As per usual with M/M(/M hehe) fantasy books I would have liked more plot and adventures in leu of some of the smut, but it's nice anyways.
