This was so touching and sad and sweet, I almost forgot how comics can make us feel so strongly! Anda reminds me so much of my younger self, and the conflict she faces is way more real and timely then I expected it to be. I definitely recommend if you grew up with the Internet and know intimately the way online games can affect people from so far away that you'd never have the chance to meet otherwise.

This book was really short - it took me under an hour to read. This is pretty common within graphic novels, but if you're looking for a quick read, this would be one to consider.

So, here's the story - Anda is a gamer. She plays on an online multiplayer game, Coarsegold Online. Which is where she starts to get missions for money - as in, real life, legit, $$ money. All she has to do is kill some avatars that are 'gold farming', which in itself is basically cheating. Anda sees this as being a crusader for justice and getting paid for it, too. Until she actually befriends one of these gold farmers and realizes that things might not be as simple and straightforward as she thinks they are.

So, plus side of this book - the art style is gorgeous. I always think it's really important for the art in graphic novels to be good, and this didn't disappoint. Great style, great coloring - everything about the art was well done.

For more story-based elements, the book did a lot for such a short amount of time and pages. It went into some pretty heavy topics, like economics, strikes, and the difference between people who have stable lives vs. those that struggle just to have a job with rights.

And going into these heavy topics was done really well - I definitely got the messages that the author was trying to send by delving into them.

Really, the only problem that I have with this novel is, coincidentally, how short it was. The length wasn't the real problem, but it's how the speed of the novel got affected by that that really bothered me. Everything seemed to go by really fast, and I felt like the conclusion of the story sped by in way too few pages. There wasn't enough time to go into a ton of detail, and it felt a little forced and unrealistic

.

Other than that, the story was pretty good! A nice, quick read if you want a graphic novel with super good art.

This was definitely very different than I was expecting but I still really enjoyed it. I especially liked the plus size character and the art style!

I liked it. I didn't think I would, considering my track record for graphic novels. I especially appreciated the intro by Cory Doctorow - I read it when I finished the book, as well. QUICK read, and has an important message - about gaming and about economics. Other important messages are there, as well, if you choose to follow their lead. (A couple of swear words are included.)
