Again, similar to the prior book in the Skeleton Creek series, author Patrick Carman offers an interesting presentation style by incorporating YouTube videos to supplement/enhance the storytelling (posted by one of the story's characters, Sarah). The story is told through Ryan's diary writing. The suspense of 'will Ryan and Sarah get caught' continues to run through the storyline. The twist in the end is somewhat defused if the reader does not view the video though. Otherwise, the author did a good job telling this piece of the story. Definitely a good read for MG readers.
After reading Skeleton Creek yesterday, I couldn't wait to read Ghost today. It was just as involving and pulled me in as completely as the first book. I really enjoyed toggling back and forth between Ryan's journals and Sarah's videos. I feel jealous of kids today that have this sort of story available to them. When I was a kid, this sort of multimedia presentation wouldn't have been possible. We didn't have computers at home - we didn't even have computers at school until our high school years. And those machines would not have been capable of the processing, memory storage, or media players needed to do this sort of thing. At one point I had Sarah's website pulled up on my laptop and was Googling her passwords on my PC and wondering what new ways to tell stories will spin off from this effort. Please read them!
