William's characterization here is a standout. One wouldn't necessarily call him "simple" but that's what he is. His needs and wants are clear and admirable and he would love if everyone else's were just as clear. That being said, at no time do you feel he's stupid or lacking.

I did feel the story ran out of steam at the end. At some point, it became more important to set up the next few books in the series than give a solid and satisfying ending for these two. It's well written, but just didn't pack the emotional punch I was hoping for. On to the next book!

Loved this one so much more than On The Edge! I really couldn't stand Declan in On The Edge because he was Mr. Perfect and everything he did worked out well. Unlike Declan, William was such a likeable character. He has so much going against him, which made it all the more awesome when he finally finds the happiness he deserves. Oh yeah, and the Spaghetti Hobo Queen part was too funny. Loved it.

4.5 stars. This tale of The Edge was more engaging than the first book. The worldbuilding really takes off in this installment, with new creatures, new locations, and new descriptions of the social hierarchy and fallacies therein that drive the world of the Edge and Mire dwellers. I am hoping to hear more about some of Cerise's family members, who I think could easily drive a book on their own.

Continuing on with my Ilona Andrews Binge, we have The Edge. A somewhat continuation of On the Edge in that it has taken a character from that one and continued it on in here.

In On the Edge, William was Declan's former friend/changeling in the military. He was a little strange and definitely alone, wishing that Rose would somehow choose him over Declan. Alas, she did not, and William was somewhat heartbroken, and throws himself into his work.

It's then that he meets Cerise Mar. She's the head of her very large, very close family of poor/powerful people in the swamplands, and she's looking for her parents. They begrudgingly team up, and soon an attraction forms between the two that's as intense and passionate as it is awkward. After all, William is a changeling, and in this case, changelings aren't very human. They don't act or feel the same. They're a bit more animalistic than usual, and it shows.William has issues that Cerise helps tame.

I enjoyed reading this one, and can't wait to read the next. I give it 5 stars.

Well, the first book wasn’t a fluke: I really like these books. It’s a very good escape read and a very rich world for a paranormal romance novel. Heavy on plot, lighter on sex scenes (it’s usually reversed).

The concept is a little bit the same--cooky backwoods family with a young girl needing to act as a matriarch, mysterious stranger comes in from another world, they fall in love.

Great read.

Happy for William but the main characters were too stubborn. And the big family really comes through with all of the superfluous characters. Action packed, but not my favorite plot.
