I went through the rest of the series before wrapping around to this one, probably because I preferred the idea of sexy law enforcement/military men than a senator. I have to admit, though, this particular senator really hit the spot. I've seen Reece and Kara featured in the other books and was familiar with their story through a few references here and there, but I didn't know the entire thing. It's a pretty intense story.
The author really set the whole plot up very nicely, dropping hints and building up both the romance and the suspense beautifully. I had figured out who the surprise bad guy was relatively early. I think I've already become used to the author's style and I was anticipating it. I saw the clues a mile away. But it was very well done and rather than feel annoyed that I'd figured it out, I felt vindicated instead. The final action scene where everything comes to a climax was super intense and had me on the edge of my seat, even though I logically knew it was all going to turn out fine (especially since I've read the rest of the series and I know the characters are both around).
All in all, it was a fun read and I'm glad I came back to it. While Reece is not in my top favorite heroes of the series, he deserves an honorary mention for being pretty damn awesome.

Beneran page turner!
Minor: Death, Gun violence, Physical abuse, Sexual violence
A real guilty pleasure. The last chapter was a bit overly sappy, even for me, but overall it was a quick, enjoyable read.
I think this book was good. It was an interesting plot to find out who was a real friend and who wasn't.
5 stars!
I've been a little into romantic suspense books lately and wanted to try a different author. It turned out really well, because I loved this ons :)
Won't say too much about it. But if you like these kind of books, this is a must read!

It's wonderful to read a series about investigative journalists with such well-drawn, complex characters and stories whose actions are driven by the characters!
The I-Team work together and their stories are somewhat intertwined.
This first book brings together an unusual duo - Kara, an investigative reporter trying to raise her son alone while being the best writer she can be. Reece, a sexy senator who has his own set of issues and has a bimbo-looking sister.
The story follows Kara as she tries to uncover a story that's very dangerous for people who try to stick their noses into things that are none of their business. Kara can't turn away from the story because it's really good, and because she can't turn away, things get a little ugly. In addition to the dramatic story, she's trying to be a good mother to her 4-year-old son Connor and not fall in love with the sexy Senator Sheridan.
I liked the chemistry between Reese and Kara. You could feel the sexual tension building between them from their first scene together. In my opinion, Clare did an exceptional job of bringing their romance together. The romance between the two, the story following Kara, and everything else was an exciting roller coaster ride that I just fell in love with. This book is, as my friends would say when they're really excited about something, "the business".
I can't say enough good things about this book.
Reese was a hot guy. I totally loved him. He was so sexy that I wanted to find him and fall all over him. He was smart, sexy, and he was oh so swoon-worthy.
I loved him.
*sigh*
I enjoyed getting to know these two. Together and apart they were great. Pamela Clare really knows how to write entertaining, engaging, and very charming stories that never fail to delight me. I loved it and can't wait to read the next book in this series. I love, love, love it! If you haven't read this series yet, you definitely should because it's awesome!
This book kept me up late at night and I'd check the door several times to make sure I locked it! Check your doors again and read this book. It's suspenseful throughout and has a satisfying ending.

This had some intensity and events that hit harder than I was in the mood to read right now I think. The book I finished before this was a sweet, slightly suspenseful read, and this was jarring in comparison with whistleblowing, death threats leading to danger, and political machinations. Other friends rated this more highly and my enjoyment was definitely affected by my mood.
The writing is high quality and there are multiple complex plot lines woven around a spicy romance. The H is an idealistic politician who fights for the environment and treats the h and her son so well. The h was a badass journalist, unafraid to go toe to toe with anyone professionally, but she was frustrating when it came to her personal life. They have an interesting (and revealingly mortifying) moment when the h has too much to drink at a bar and the H helps her home. A quickly deepening romance develops, including several steamy scenes. Despite the wonderfulness that was the H, the h self-sabotaged at times and made me want to shake her a bit. But she also had a lot of baggage and a lot going on what with the danger and turmoil and trying to break a huge story.
Written in third person, mostly dual POV (a couple POVs of side characters). No ow/om drama and neither were virgins (h had been celibate for years and H not a manwhore, brief mention of a casual relationship he had with someone previously in the past).
Some older style writing inclusions that might bother some of my friends, for example the h’s editor who crosses major HR boundaries with how he treats staff. Other than him though, the side characters were excellent. Her other coworkers were equally intelligent and driven, while being supportive. The h’s mother was hilariously forthright and New Age. Plus the h’s son was adorably precious and his scenes with the H were lovely.
The climax had me white-knuckling my kindle honestly, even knowing it had to have a HEA. And it definitely does. The epilogue wraps up what happened to all the bad guys and shows the H and h happily married 18 months later and them living their best lives. The final page is esp sweet and moving.
