I could already tell this series would have a different vibe from Cora's older books as soon as I began to read. Maybe it's a me thing and I still saw the characters as kids because that's what they were in the previous series. Marci seemed pretty spoilt and she is very much a mafia princess. I can admit she was tough with the kidnapping etc but she was giving me 13 year old vibes when she was an adult. Even as far in as 40% I was still struggling to see any chemistry. The other thing that felt under developed was Maddox's relationships with his fellow MC members. He didn't seem to have any strong connections, although this may have been what Cora was going for as he does betray them. I did not feel connected to Marcella - Mad was a much more likable character. I also felt that it was strange that Marcella was just allowed to join the business and torture side of the Mob when she had absolutely no prior experience. She seemed quite juvenile the whole way through and I am hoping there is more character development in the next book.
