The first thing I thought of when seeing this book was a day when a neighbor claimed he would jump off the 32' top tier of the diving tower at a local pool. As everyone watched, he climbed to the top, then chickened out and went down to the 24' level, then down to 16'. I don't remember if he eventually stopped at 8' and finally jumped or climbed all the way back down.
I liked the different views/angles in the illustrations, and the ways that words comprised some of the objects. It could be fun to project and eBook when reading aloud.

I never got comfortable jumping off a high dive. As I hiked as an adult I've gotten used to high up places as long as I don't get too close to the edge. In this picture book Jabari decides to jump off the high dive. It's his decision. And his father helps him through it. A bit of normalcy, a bit of reality. Pretty good art.

Jabari has passed his swimming test and is now ready to jump from the big diving board ... or is he? This charming book tells us the story of a little boy trying to find his way forward through his fear to achieve his goal. Suitable for ages 4 to 8.
A sweet book about being ready to do something new and having a parent's unwavering support.
So delightful. The illustrations are fabulous. Social-emotional
This is the second time we read this book, and it is one that we really enjoy. Jabari's story is relatable, and funny. Love the interaction with dad.

Loved how this shows overcoming fears and doing new scary things.
Oh my goodness I love this book! Jabari is a little boy who is so excited to jump off the tall diving board. But when he get there, it really does seem quite high! Maybe stretching will help? Or the other kids can go first? All along Jabari’s journey, his dad is right there validating his feelings, helping to name emotions, and holding space for this boy to find his courage on his own. That relationship just got me in the feels! What a rad dad! This is a new favorite! I borrowed it from the library, but it is moving to the top of my wish list!
