This was very cute- and as someone who is maybe still terrified of jumping off of a diving board, I thought it was really well-done and relate-able. It's nice to see picture books with caring dad characters, too.
I loved this book! Lovely illustrations, diverse characters, and an important message that it's OK to be scared of something new (jumping off the diving board the first time - something many can relate to) and how to be brave in facing those fears. This book is a delight, and I am eager to share it with kids.
Recommended in an article about picture books for teaching social emotional skills. Positive representation. Models facing and overcoming fear of trying something new. Recasting fear of unknown as joy of surprise. It's a good book.
What a delight! The illustrations are wonderful especially the typography effects that help highlight special moments. Seeing everyone in the pool waving and smiling as Jabari jumps with a such a joyful look on his face makes me so happy! A great book with a great message.
Lovely story about being brave, perfect as a read aloud for children aged 3+
Holy Small Moment, Lucy Calkins! Sweet and encouraging.
Jabari is MUCH braver than me! That high dive is really high.
A sweet little story about a boy jumping off the high dive at his public pool. Great illustrations and simple text will make this a hit with storytime crowds or just reading together. Especially if you are fans of the swimming pool.

A sweet little story about a boy who overcomes his fears of jumping off the diving board at the public pool. Nice illustrations a wonderful story about trying new things...and turning fears into excitement.

I love everything about this book. There's a dad (and he's loving and supportive), a kid who overcomes his fear, and nonwhite characters. I might try this one out in kindergarten next year.
